When buying welding equipment It is essential to know what kind of materials are going to be melted. This will determine the type of solder you will need.
At Makinak we are specialists in the sale of first and second hand welding equipment. We have a wide range of these products for both manual welding and automatic welding.. In this post we will explain the advantages and peculiarities of the different types of welding .
soft soldering
This type of welding consists of the use of a soldering iron that, when connected to the electric current , begins to heat its tip to no more than 450 degrees Celsius.. Upon contact with the materials, they are melted. The Filler materials needed are usually alloys of tin or lead .
It is especially useful for joining items made of tin, brass, bronze or lead, as well as galvanized sheets and electronic and electrical components .
brazing
This type of welding uses a gas torch to force the filler metal (usually brass or copper ) into the materials to be joined.
Its application is limited to elements made of brass, copper, silver alloys and steels and the temperature at which it works is between 450 and 800 degrees Celsius .
Oxyacetylene or gas welding
In the shipbuilding, automotive or construction industries, this type of welding is usually used to manipulate iron and steel sheets .
The filler materials can be of the same nature as the one to be welded (homogeneous) or of a different nature (heterogeneous). The method of use consists of applying gas with an oxyacetylene torch (combination of oxygen with acetylene) that facilitates rapid fusion and that the heat does not spread. The required temperature is more than 3000 degrees Celsius .
electric resistance welding
This type of welding is finding its place in modern industry , especially when it comes to working with thin sheets or in the manufacture of bodies for cars, household appliances and toys .
The temperature required for melting is the same as the melting temperature of the materials to be joined.. For this, exercise pressure and electric current is used on the area to be welded .
This type of welding has different ways of applying :
- Spot welding : Parts are welded through small circular pieces isolated from each other. They remain attached to electrodes that, thanks to the electric current, melt the pieces to join them to the material to be welded.
- Seam welding : The application method of this type of welding is similar to that of spot welding, but in this case a roller is used that passes through the areas to be joined .
- Electric arc welding : This type of welding uses a rod with an electrode at its tip that, when it comes into contact with the material in question, melts it for its future union with another piece.
Laser or power beam welding
It is the most suitable type of welding to join those materials that have a high melting temperature , normally more than 5500 degrees Celsius.. Turns out to be the fastest and most productive way to weld different parts.
